Family Camp

Bring your family closer together through outdoor fun and relaxation. This all-inclusive family getaway includes lodging, meals, and activities on beautiful Puget Sound - an ideal way to foster connections in a safe, beautiful, and supportive environment. 

Families of all forms are welcome at the Y, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, step-families, single parents, LGBTQ+ families, and more.

Registration Instructions: click the button above and set the location to Camp Seymour. Family camps are listed under specialty camps. 

Step 1: Register for a cabin and pay the cabin fee to reserve your spot. Step 2: Register each family member attending. At check out, you will pay the deposit of $25 per person and set up the payment for the balance due date two weeks before the start of the program.

Financial Assistance is provided to individuals, kids, and families on a need basis and allows access to all programs, activities, and facilities at the YMCA. If we can serve you or your family in this way, please fill out the Financial Assistance Application.

BIPOC Family Camp FAQs

What is the BIPOC Family Camp?

The BIPOC Family Camp is a special event designed to provide Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) families with a welcoming and inclusive outdoor experience. It’s an opportunity to connect with nature, participate in fun activities, and create lasting memories.

When and where is the camp taking place?

The camp will take place from November 1-3, 2024, at YMCA Camp Seymour, located at 9725 Cramer Rd KPN, Gig Harbor, WA 98329. Check in instructions will be included in the welcome packet which will be sent out 2 weeks before camp.

What activities will be available?

The BIPOC Family Camp will offer a variety of activities, including:

  • Canoeing and kayaking
  • Hiking and nature walks
  • Archery
  • Arts and crafts
  • Campfire storytelling and s'mores
  • Team-building games
  • Environmental education programs

There will be something for everyone, from toddlers to adults!

Are meals provided?

Yes, all meals are included during your stay. Our dining hall will serve delicious and nutritious meals, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options available. If you have specific dietary needs, please let us know in advance.

What are the lodging options?

Families will stay in our cozy cabins, each equipped with bunk beds, heating, showers, and basic amenities. You will need to bring your own bedding and toiletries.

How much does lodging cost?

The cost for a whole cabin is:

  • $150 for YMCA members
  • $300 for non-members

In addition to the cabin fee, there is a per person fee of $120 for both members and non-members. Children under the age of 3 can attend at no cost.

How do I register for the camp?

Registration is available online through the YMCA Camp Seymour website. Simply fill out the registration form and select the BIPOC Family Camp option.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel your registration, please contact us at least two weeks before the camp start date for a full refund. Cancellations made less than two weeks before the camp will receive a 50% refund.

Is financial assistance available?

Yes, financial assistance is provided to individuals, kids, and families on a need basis and allows access to all programs, activities, and facilities at the YMCA. If we can serve you or your family in this way, please fill out the Financial Assistance Application available on our website.

What should we bring?

Here is a suggested packing list:

  • Bedding (sleeping bags or sheets and blankets, pillows)
  • Towels and toiletries
  • Comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes for outdoor activities
  • Rain gear and warm layers
  • Flashlight or headlamp
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Any necessary medications

Can we bring pets?

For the safety and comfort of all participants, pets are not allowed at the camp.

Is the camp accessible for individuals with disabilities?

YMCA Camp Seymour is committed to providing an inclusive experience for all participants. Many of our facilities and activities are accessible, and we are happy to make accommodations where possible. Please contact us in advance to discuss any specific needs or concerns.

Will there be supervision for children during activities?

While our experienced camp staff will lead and facilitate all organized activities, parents and guardians are responsible for the general supervision of their children at all times, including when they are not participating in structured activities. This ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in for the BIPOC Family Camp will begin at 5:00 PM on Friday, November 1. Check-out will be at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 3. Please plan to arrive and depart within these times to ensure a smooth experience for all families.

What if the weather is bad?

Camp Seymour operates rain or shine! Please pack appropriate clothing for the weather, including rain gear and warm layers. Many of our activities can be adjusted to indoor spaces if necessary, but we encourage families to embrace the outdoors regardless of the weather conditions.

Will there be cell phone reception and Wi-Fi available?

Cell phone reception can be spotty at Camp Seymour. We do provide Wi-Fi, though we encourage families to disconnect and enjoy their time together. We recommend informing loved ones of your limited connectivity during the camp. In case of emergencies, our camp staff can facilitate communication.
