YMCA EXTENDS OPPORTUNITIES TO CHILDREN OF MILITARY SERVICE MEMBERS
This summer, the Armed Services YMCA is partnering with YMCA Camp Seymour and YMCA Camp Lake Helena to provide low-cost overnight camp and day camp opportunities for children of enlisted service members in Pierce and Kitsap Counties.
Washington state is home to the seventh largest military population in the nation, with over 45,000 active duty personnel. The Y has a long history of serving members of the military and their families going back over 150 years.
"At camp, kids are in a welcoming environment where they can belong; they build relationships, developing character and discovering their potential," said YMCA Camp Seymour’s Executive Director, Scott Jackson.
Active duty, full-time National Guard, and Reserve servicemembers stationed in Western Washington in ranks E-1 through E-7 are eligible to apply for a week of Summer Day Camp at YMCA Camp Lake Helena or a week of Overnight Camp at YMCA Camp Seymour at a subsidized rate. Funding for this program is provided by the Armed Services YMCA, and the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties Annual Campaign.
YMCA camp programs offer youth fun and unique experiences with an opportunity to explore the outdoors, meet new friends, discover new interests and create memories that last a lifetime. Military children move six to nine times during their school career, making summer camp a significant opportunity and safe space where lifelong friendships can blossom.
